SAN DIEGO, CA - April 12, 2007 – San Diego, CA: Kevin Byrne, MD, MPH, will speak at the American Occupational Health Conference (AOHC) being held in New Orleans, May 6 – 9, 2007.   Dr. Byrne’s session will be on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 from 8:30AM – 10AM, Session 2305: Update on ACOEM Practice Guidelines: Elbow

Dr. Byrne will participate in reviewing the principles of the elbow chapter of the Revised ACOEM Practice Guidelines which will cover: Elbow anatomy and function; Elbow pathophysiology (tendonitis, tendonopathy, tendinosis, ulnar neuropathy); Mechanism of injury of elbow problems; Causation of elbow problems; Investigation of elbow problems, including imaging; Treatment of elbow problems; Functional assessment of elbow problems; Fitness to work; Case management of elbow problems; and Prognosis of elbow problems.


Learning Objectives:  (1) Identify the methodology/criteria used for studies accepted for review. (2) Describe the practical application of the Guidelines to clinical practice. (3) Describe elbow anatomy, function, and pathophysiology. (4) Interpret the most current evidence-based recommendations for treatment of occupationally-related elbow disorders.


CME Credit: The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. ACOEM designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.25 AMA PRA category 1 credit.™

Kevin Byrne, MD, MPH
Dr. Kevin Byrne founded CorpMed, in 1997 to provide preventive services in the area of musculoskeletal disorders. He has over 20 year of experience in treating and preventing cumulative / repetitive disorders. His work has proven that the great majority of these injuries are preventable by effective training and other prevention tools. His recent work has focused on the positive impact of ergonomic training on productivity and costs.

Dr. Byrne is a former medical director for AT&T and is currently the Medical Director for the US Postal Service in Southern California.  He is board certified and a Fellow in both Family Practice and Occupational and Environmental Medicine. He has a Masters degree in Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Preventive Medicine.  He is also the author of a textbook on the prevention of heart attack and stroke entitled, Understanding and Managing Cholesterol, A Guide for Wellness Professionals, Human Kinetics Pub. 1990.
